As a Digital Solution Architect you will be responsible for owning solution designs and content. You will be responsible for architectures across a wide variety of Digital product applications. Working closely with assurance and security colleagues, you’ll ensure all architectures and designs are compliant, ensuring we can maintain our trusted relationship with our customers.
We’re looking for a true team player, who will work closely with a combination of in-house and supply-chain software agile DevOps teams. You’ll be required to define architectures and input into designs, ensuring all teams have effective designs and, crucially, that everyone understands the architecture. You’ll also be involved in developing, supporting and encouraging people to develop to their full potential and be at their best (plus enjoy their jobs). You will be passionate about the technology market, and continuously researching and evolving your architectures.
You will be highly aware of business requirements driving platform investment and shaping the platform to meet current and future business needs. Your business knowledge and customer focus will ensure solutions deliver capabilities to customers and not isolated tools.

What you’ll be doing:
You will be drawing on your passion and energy, evangelise the impact Digital technology can make within Rolls-Royce Submarines.

- Provide extensive hands-on architecture and technical leadership to support scalable application design and delivery.
- Take ownership of all aspects of application architecture within the Submarines Digital product portfolio, considering, in line with architectural and security standards, reference architectures and enterprise road maps.
- Form a close working relationship with other architects and security teams within Rolls-Royce to share best practice and continually learn.
- Form a strong and trusted relationship with agile DevOps teams, providing technical guidance and thought leadership during continuous delivery.
- To be the “brain” and see the entire Digital picture enabling exploitation of data and services across the organisation to more effectively model and simulate our Business.
- To converse directly or facilitate engagements with business communities to better understand business drivers for content development.
- Help to shape our Digital technology road maps ensuring your experience supports and enhances decisions made relating to the technology.
- Stay current with your understanding of the fast-changing technology market and ensure architectures align with current best practices.
- To recruit, encourage, inspire and develop our people, helping them to be at their best.
Who we are looking for:

- Professionally qualified Engineer (UK minimum BEng degree or other national equivalent, higher degree preferred)
- UK CEng (Chartered Engineer) or other national equivalent relevant to specialist subject area
- Member of a relevant professional body/institute
- A deep understanding of specialist subject and proven ability to influence key decision
- Understanding of Intellectual Property and Export Control requirements

- Finding the right balance between pace of delivery, quality, technical debt and cost is challenging. We’re looking for someone with strong experience doing this.
- We’re a growing internal digital teams but we also work with suppliers in the UK. We’re looking for someone with strong experience working with a mix of digital teams like these.
- We aim to achieve 100% automation in Continuous Integration and Delivery. We’re looking for an individual who is passionate about automation and experienced in CICD.
- Our design ethos is focussed on On Prem and Cloud, so we’re looking for an individual with a passion to build strong relationships with technology providers.
- We’re committed to ensuring our teams can be autonomous and accountable for building and running their products. Technologies such as containerisation play a big part in this, so we’re looking for someone with experience in modern software practices such as these.
- Our Digital products are part of our next generation technology. You’ll be a big part of shaping our designs for this technology, so we’re looking for someone with experience of Big Data Platform and cutting-edge technology designs.
- Building a capable, engaged workforce is critical to effective delivery. We’re looking for team players, who enjoy supporting, mentoring and encouraging less experienced members of the DevOps team.
- You’ll bring a business-centric mindset, with experience considering delivery, cost and quality and always seeking to understand the value of our solutions. Working closely with our teams, you’ll be able to translate this business knowledge into working solutions.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
