The Role:
Play a leading role in protecting the information that keeps London safe
The Metropolitan Police Service runs on trust, from the public, from our partners, and from the thousands of officers and staff who rely on our systems and data every day. That trust depends on how we protect our information.
As an Information Assurance Supervisor in our Digital, Data and Technology team, you’ll be part of the Met’s central hub for information security, assurance, and risk the Information Assurance Unit (IAU). Our scope is broad, our work is vital, and our impact is felt across the whole organisation and beyond, right up to national policing bodies and government security standards.
This isn’t just about compliance. It’s about protecting the information that protects London.
From advising on major projects and auditing suppliers, to responding to incidents and shaping policy, you’ll work at the heart of the UK’s largest police service alongside national policing and government security bodies.
We’re looking for two people who can assess risks, explain complex ideas simply, and help drive a positive security culture across the Met.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll focus in one of two areas:
- Security Incident Management – your work will be about risk and prevention, mainly data breaches (around 80%), but also physical security issues and some cyber incidents. You’ll review incidents, spot trends across the Met and externally, and work out how to prevent problems before they happen.
- Policy & Awareness – this role is more about creating awareness and embedding good security culture across the organisation. You’ll need some experience with policy, but the focus is on informal learning, helping staff understand why information security matters, and presenting to both large groups and senior leaders.
Over time, you’ll gain exposure across all Information Assurance areas — auditing, supplier assurance, project input, and more. You’ll work closely with the Cyber team, but while they focus on technical cyber security, your team takes a holistic, operational approach, looking at the bigger picture across the Met.
What we can offer:
- Hybrid working arrangements for a healthy work-life balance
- 28 days annual leave (excluding public holidays), rising to 33 days after 5 years continuous service
- Personal and professional development opportunities
- Enrolment with the Met’s employee incentive partner, Edenred, giving access to a range of rewards and incentives
- Access to a range of financial products via the Metropolitan Police Trading Service, including preferred credit facilities
- Generous family leave for pregnancy, adoption, paternity and shared parental leave
- Childcare support including nursery and play scheme discounts
- Excellent contributory pension scheme for your financial future
- Access to the Bluelight Emergency Services discount card with a range of official discounts from large national retailers to local businesses including holidays, cars, days out, fashion, gifts, insurance, phones and much more
- A substantial range of health and wellbeing benefits including physiotherapy, 24/7 rehabilitation services and free eye tests
- To promote physical well-being you will have full access to subsidised sports centre membership to over 3,000 UK gyms and 80 London Fitness Centres. There is also an excellent range of sporting activities on offer through the various Met Police Sports and Social Clubs.
Essential skills:
- Understanding of information assurance/security risks, with willingness to develop a full skillset
- Ability to assess risk and take proportionate action
- Excellent verbal and written communication; able to influence stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to explain complex issues in plain language
- Professional, clear, and concise policy and guidance writing
- Proactive, flexible, and self-driven; works effectively in a team
- Knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, and basic cyber security
- CISMP or other recognised information security qualification
- Current or previous experience in Information Security, Information Assurance, IT Security, or related disciplines
- Experience in policy development or awareness initiatives
- Data analytics skills with the ability to present findings
Security Clearance:
Due to the secure nature of our work, successful candidates must pass all vetting and security requirements, which for this role means Vetting Clearance is Force Clearance Level, Recruitment Vetting (RV), and National Security Vetting (NSV) Level, Counter Terrorism Check (CTC).
